The Power P90 In-Home Boot Camp fitness program is designed to provide a path to fitness for non-athletes.

Whether you are a couch potato, obese, or a completely out of shape former athlete looking for motivational assistance, Tony Horton will gently guide you through almost daily workouts over a period of 90 days to help you lose weight, build strength and stamina, and feel good about your health.

The Power P90 can be used as a stand-alone fitness program, or a way to transition from a vegetative state to the more advanced P90X Extreme Home Fitness Program.

In Summary

  • Excellent Starter Workout Program
  • 90 day duration split into 45 day periods
  • Commitment of 30 to 45 min/day
  • Tracking Calendar to stay Motivated
  • Fat Burner Meal Plan

Two Workout Programs in One

The 90 day program is divided into two 45 day periods, each period covered by a DVD containing two workouts. A daily session takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete once your body has become accustomed to doing them, thus the meaning of the slogan “Power to Shower in Under an Hour”. Workouts are performed six days a week and the cardio and sculpting workouts are done on alternating days. There’s no magic here – to fully realize the advertised fitness benefits of the Power 90 program you will be required to commit about four hours per week to complete the recommended workouts.

The additional workouts included with the program are two abdominal workouts of increasing difficulty and another cardio workout designed to burn calories. For resistance training, a “Power Sculpting Band” is provided free of charge. Additional components of the program include tools to help you record fitness improvements, measuring tape, weight loss meal planning guide, and an additional workout program designed to help you lose 10 pounds and 10 inches in 6 days.

Does Power 90 work?

When reading through the reviews submitted by customers who purchased the Power P90 fitness program, it quickly became obvious that a sizeable number are genuinely grateful to Tony Horton for giving them the tools they needed to lose weight and gain their health back. I found myself moved by several well-written and thoughtful postings that must have taken considerable effort to compose. Based on these and other customer reviews, the Power P90 fitness program is capable of providing the necessary tools for dramatic positive life transformations by everyday people. The primary message communicated by these comments is that the Power P90 fitness program really does work . . . if you work it.

Power 90 Before and After

Several previously sedate customers who purchased the Power P90 found it difficult to keep up with Tony during the workouts at first. To ensure that customers don’t overextend themselves, Tony emphasizes the importance of going at your own pace throughout the sessions and even taking breaks when necessary. For this reason, the initial weekly time commitment might be higher than advertised for the first one or two weeks.

A few customers also commented on the relatively low price of the program when compared to membership fees at the local health club or gym. This is especially important for anyone beginning a weight loss program that would otherwise be stymied by the public and competitive atmosphere found in many health clubs.

Power 90 Complaints

The most common complaint about the Power P90 program is the lack of variety in the workouts, which makes it difficult to keep boredom at bay. Some customers combated this tendency toward tedium by mixing in the extra workouts included with the Power P90 program, but the best advice came from an athlete helping a spouse get in shape: ‘by focusing on gains, boredom can be kept at bay’.

The tracking tools included with the program can help in this regard, by monitoring physical changes that occur with weight loss and increased upper body strength. The most common way of continuing to realize fitness improvements is by increasing resistance, but only if the exercises have become easy. This can be done by purchasing stiffer stretch bands, but more commonly athletes purchase a set of dumbbells. Improvements can also be realized by increasing the number of repetitions, and by slowing movements during resistance exercises and focusing on form.

Here are some comments from people who have already bought this program:

By Joseph J. Roby…bought this after seeing the P90X program on TV and researching it was recommended that beginners or folks out of shape should do the power 90 program first. I took the advice and got the Power 90 program. Tony is a great trainer and the first few times you are really tired, but you get used to the program after a couple weeks and that is when you can really push it. If you don’t push yourself then you will not see results as fast.

I have just completed 45 days and I went from being 6’1″ and 235 (obese) to a built (gained a lot of upper body muscle) 215 and went from a large 38 pant size (really should have been 40) to a 35. I am pumped and working out is fun again! I am now moving on to the series 3-4 of the workout and when I finish the 90 days I am ordering P90X to get in even better shape! The band that comes with the kit is good for starting out, but I went and got the next step up band (heavy) to increase the resistance for some of the work outs. Eventually I will get the adjustable dumb bells to speed up things and allow quick change in weight depending on the workout, but that is later. If you are out of shape and over weight you gotta try this out!

By Nikki…I started this program on March 14th and I can’t say enough good things about it. I was considering P90X, and was glad I checked out the reviews because I had a lot of weight to lose and was just starting out on a fitness program. Since Power 90 seemed less daunting, I decided to give it a try.

The program is great, but I got bored with the cardio and replaced that with elliptical trainer sessions. I also slacked off on the Ab workout, but committed to doing the Power Sculpt. I’m approaching the last week of the 90day program and I’m happy to report that I’ve lost about 35lbs in less than 3 months.

The P90X Extreme Home Fitness Training System has been designed by the celebrity trainer, Tony Horton, to take someone who is already in good shape to the next level.

For people who are not physically fit or have significant medical limitations, this fitness program may not be appropriate because of the real risk for serious injury. That said, the P90X can help increase your strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, and stamina, while shedding any extra pounds, in just 90 days. If this program sounds too advanced for you, check out Tony’s Starter program Power P90 In-Home Boot Camp.

  • 90 day duration
  • 12 varied Workout Routines
  • Muscle Confusion Strategy
  • Nutrition Plan

Muscle Confusion

The innovative edge the P90X has over other home fitness programs is a method Tony Horton has developed called “muscle confusion”. By relying on 12 different workouts, and limiting the number of times each workout is performed for a given period, muscle groups don’t have time to fully adapt before confronting a new challenge. This prevents muscle groups from reaching a plateau, increases the overall complexity of the training program, and ensures that a more comprehensive fitness level is attained.

The P90X Extreme Home Fitness Training System comes with 12 DVDs that provide six strength training workouts, three cardio workouts, one stretching session, one yoga session, and a workout for sculpting abs.

During the 90 day period, strength and cardio workouts are done on alternating days, except for weeks 4, 8, and 13 when only cardio and stretching is done. Muscle confusion is accomplished by the following:

(1) three different strength training sessions are used for the first three weeks and the other three strength training sessions are used for weeks 5 through 7,

(2) during weeks 9 and 11 the first three strength training sessions are repeated, and during weeks 10 and 12 the second three strength training sessions are repeated.

Using this schedule, the muscles are first conditioned during the first two months and then challenged during the last month with a two week rotating schedule that never repeats a strength training session.

The P90X System includes other training tools to help enhance your workout experience. These include a DVD that provides an overview of the complete system called “How to Bring It”, a detailed fitness guide containing training tips, a calendar for tracking your progress, and a nutrition plan designed by the celebrity nutritionist Carrie Wiatt that will maximize weight loss without robbing you of the energy needed to complete the workouts.

Customized fitness programs are also provided that allows you to focus on specific fitness goals. These include the P90X Lean for focusing on weight loss, P90X Doubles for performance athletes that need more than one workout per day, PlyoX to increase the difficulty of cardio workouts that will challenge both the heart and joints, and the Cardio X for a more sedate, low-impact cardio workout.

Does Power P90X work?

Based on the large number of customer reviews that have been posted, the P90X Extreme Home Fitness Training System is very popular. The vast majority (83%) of these reviews were from happy customers.

Probably the most common comment is that the P90X Training System actually works, if you’re able to set aside more than six hours every week for completing the workout sessions. Some customers also noted that the cost of the system is about equal to the cost of a three month membership at a health club, which is good news for anyone who can’t get to a gym. The bottom line is that the P90X is a good value for the money and works as advertised, which is no small achievement.

P90x Before and After

P 90X Complaints

There were a few cautionary comments by customers worth noting. A few customers didn’t realize until after receiving the P90X training system in the mail that additional equipment would need to be purchased. Purchase recommendations from customers included stretch bands or barbells (preferred), a pull-up bar, push-up stands (or simply use barbells that can’t roll across the floor), and a yoga mat.

Some customers also noted that following the recommended diet was probably more expensive than some customers might be able to afford, and another customer discovered meal recommendations three weeks into the diet that weren’t appropriate for diabetics.

The relatively small number of negative customer reviews helped paint a more realistic picture of the P90X training system. The P90X is no magic bullet, because a significant time and energy commitment must be made to take full advantage of what the training system can offer. The heavy reliance on pushups, squats, and pull-ups limits the amount of resistance that can be used for these exercises. Should these exercises become easy, increasing resistance can only be accomplished by joining a gym or purchasing relatively expensive resistance training equipment.

More than a few customers commented that the P90X is hard on people with joint problems, so consult with your doctor before you purchase the P90X if you have medical ailments that could be aggravated by the intense training sessions. Quite a few customers grew annoyed with Tony’s occasionally “cheesy” banter, while others seemed to enjoy it. For anyone belonging to the former group, relief can be found by silencing the DVD sound track and listening to your own. Some customers complained that detailed explanations for how to use barbells and stretch bands were lacking, but these types of comments seemed to ignore the fact that P90X customers should already be in good shape by virtue of having learned the basics of resistance training.

Customer Comments

Here are some comments from people who have already purchased this program:

By A.S. Montgomory…My neighbor bought this workout and got great results. I tried it out, I did every workout for 90 days and stuck to the diet 99%, two days I ate like I wasn’t supposed to. I have wrist, elbow, knee and back problems, years of basketball. At the end of the 90 days I had virtually no joint pain. I did not do the full range of motion early on, I worked my way into it.

End result, I lost 32 pounds and looked good enough that I put my before and after pictures on facebook. It is a difficult series to make it through and my wife can’t stick to the diet. She does the workouts 3 to 5 times a week and looks much better now than she did before she started. Very good workout to get you looking good and feeling good.

J. Schwendinger…This program is the real deal. I have been doing P90X for 30 days now (Just finishing phase 1) and I can clearly see results! I am almost addicted! It’s fun, and hard. Don’t be surprised, the workouts are tough, they will drain you, this is the real thing. If you are not willing to push through pain, this is not the workout for you. But, if you are, if you are ready to do your best (regardless of what that is) and push until you can push no further, than P90X is the program for you. I used to think I was fairly in shape, HA, then I did Plyometircs. I used to think Yoga was for sissies, then I did yoga X. This program will change your perception of fitness.

The diet guide is essetial to the program. You can pump as much iron and burn as many calories as you want, but if your not putting the right fuel into your body you will not see the results you are looking for. P90X is much more than a workout. It is a way of life. It is a commitment to change the way you do things in every aspect of your life. To “Do your best, and forget the rest” as is repeated over and over in the DVD’s. I love it, and i hope you do too!

Understanding P90x Muscle Confusion

Since its commercial release in 2004, the P90x is said to have been used by 1.5 to 2 million people.  Users and critics alike both raved on the significant results that the P90x can give within 90 days, whether it is about losing weight or building muscles.  How did the P90x become a success? It’s in the simple principle, the muscle confusion principle.

How do you confuse your muscles?

Consider your first trip to the gym or the first time you performed an exercise regimen, your body’s initial reaction would be soreness. Your body would eventually recover and then you proceed to your next gym session.  As your workout in the gym gets regular, you would notice that your body would rarely get sore.

What does it show? You body and your muscles have learned to adapt to the movements,  reducing the effects of the workout in certain body areas. Contrary to what we may think, the body is fast in adapting to different movement.  To start burning calories again, you would need to change your exercise program.

The muscle confusion principle “confuses” the body, making it hard for the body to adapt to the movements.  The P90x uses 12 different workouts, each working on different muscle groups.  Your body will keep on learning new exercises.  Normally, it would take about 30 days for the body to adapt to a routine.  With P90x, you will be working out on a routine for a month, then you will be doing variations of these workout for the remaining days.

Aside from doing different exercises, you will also be changing the intensity of your workout. Changing the intensity would depend on your physical ability.  Beginners could intensify the routine on their own pace, while professionals and athletes prefer doing workouts with serious intensity.  You would see yourself doing serious moves in plyometrics, yoga, and kenpo.

In addition to changing exercises and intensity, using different kind of equipment could also encourage muscle growth through muscle confusion.  If you are working out with resistance bands, then you could change into dumbbells.  You could also reduce the amount of rest between exercises. With P90x,  it is usually a 30-second or a minute of rest before proceeding to the next exercise.

Muscle confusion does not only help your body get ripped and burning more calories, it would also help in lowering the risks of overuse injuries because of working out in one angle or position only.  Also, one reason why people fail to continue or finish an exercise program is that they get bored with it.  By changing routines, you avoid boredom and achieve your goal.

Muscle confusion is not only for bodybuilders who seek to develop muscle size. This principle could actually be applied in different workouts.  The Power 90, another Benchbody product, also uses muscle confusion to achieve weight loss. The P90x takes muscle confusion into another level which would definitely deliver results in a shorter period of time.

You do not have to be confused about it, you need to confuse your muscles.  What could be a greater way than using the P90x to achieve that significant change.
